GICW - Gulf Shores AL to Niceville FL

Gulf State Park
We are now officially in Florida! Hip hip horay! We should start seeing warmer weather more regularly now even though we are still in northern Florida. (It's still much warmer than back home)

For those who don't follow us on Facebook, we left Homeport Marina (home of the famous Lulu's restaurant - she's Jimmy Buffets sista!) and stopped at Orange Beach Marina (still in Alabama).  We really liked our stay there - it is another of those places that we would like to come back and spend more time. Great staff, courtesy car, and almost everything you want in biking distance - including the Gulf State Park. We only have positive things to say about Orange Beach.

Orange Beach, FL:

Our next stop was in Pensacola FL, at the Palafox Pier Yatch Harbor. We found it pricey at 2.25/ft, but it was downtown and within walking distance to nice shops and lots of restaurants. We enjoyed our stay, but at that price we're glad we arrived early enough to have a chance to go explore in the afternoon. We understand why everyone told us not to miss this stop - and we're glad we didn't.

We continued on to Niceville FL, Bluewater Bay Marina, located in Wards Cove, north of Destin FL. We arrived here yesteday, and were greeted by the AGLCA harbor host. A lovely couple who have already completed the loop, and now live full time on their boat. They introduced us to "Little Beers", and nope, it isn't beer in a little glass.

We're not sure how long we'll stay here. We need to seriously start looking at good weather windows to do our Gulf crossing. We are checking everything we can think of and listening to local boaters who know these waters (and the affects of the temperature, winds, and tides). This is a nice place to wait out a bit. From here, we have at least two or three travel days to get to Carrabelle FL, where we'll be leaving from to cross over.

Papi is washing the boat right now - it needed a bit of love after the inland rivers. We've requested the courtesy car this afternoon, so guess what? Yes! We'll be going exploring!
